Letterpress FAQs
Got questions?
We’ve got answers for you.
Is letterpress the same as embossing?
No, they are different. Letterpress simultaneously inks and presses the design into the paper for a shallow, inked impression. Embossing/Debossing is a separate, high-pressure process creating a more pronounced, deeper, and sculpted impression.
How many colors work best with letterpress?
Letterpress is ideal for 1–2 spot colors. More colors are possible, but simpler color palettes tend to look cleaner and more consistent.
What kind of paper works best for letterpress?
Soft, thick, uncoated or cotton papers work best. They allow for a deeper, more tactile impression and a premium feel in hand.
Can I combine letterpress with foil or digital printing?
We offer the combination of Letterpress and digital printing to allow for complex imagery or multi-color elements alongside the classic, tactile impression of letterpress. We do not currently offer a Letterpress plus foil combination.
Does letterpress affect turnaround time?
Yes. Because letterpress requires custom plates, setup, and longer press time, production typically takes about 10–12 business days.
Who typically uses letterpress business cards?
Letterpress is a favorite among design studios, law firms, creative professionals, boutique brands, and anyone who values craft, tactility, and a timeless, premium presentation.
